Peter Leyser, Director of Golfmax and Business Development, praises Golfmax Insurance Plans

June 13, 2006

On behalf of the NGCOA Canada Board of Directors, and the over 1,300 NGCOA Canada member golf facilities, I would like to express our tremendous satisfaction with the management of Golfmax Insurance Plans, administered by the managing general agent, Moore-McLean Corporate Insurance Ltd.

Beginning in 1998 with only a handful of courses in the Greater Toronto area, the Golfmax commercial insurance program has now grown to over 400 golf facilities across the country.  By comparison, Golfmax Insurance Plans main competition have roughly the same number of golf course policies in place after 30 years in the business.

A great deal of time and research has been spent in developing coverages specifically tailored to a golf course operators needs.  In fact, NGCOA Canada members often comment that by joining Golfmax Insurance Plans, not only do their coverages increase, but as well, often their overall premium decreases.  The most extreme case being a high-end, one-hundred year old private golf club in a major urban centre whose premiums decreased $50,000 per year.  By allowing any insurance broker in Canada to access the program for their customer, Moore-McLean effectively introduced a program whereby golf courses could choose the broker of their choice including their current broker.

Another benefit related to partnering with Moore-McLean is their ability to introduce other related relationships.  As a result, the Golfmax Insurance Plans umbrella now includes a group health program, home & auto, and even a hole-in-one insurance program.  Through Moore-McLean, we have been able to offer these programs to our members a terrific example of Moore-McLean listening to the needs of our members and looking out for their best interest.

Since day one, the NGCOA Canada has received tremendous service from Moore-McLean.  Secondarily, Moore-McLean understands the needs of member based, non-profit organizations such as the NGCOA Canada, and the need for Associations to generate self-sustaining revenue.

To achieve the success the NGCOA Canada has achieved over its’ thirteen year existence, requires the hard work and dedication of many, including our valued partners.  Moore-McLean and Golfmax Insurance Plans have been instrumental in the growth of the Association.

We look forward to continuing our long term, mutually beneficial partnership with Moore-McLean, and would certainly recommend this fine company to other Associations establishing an insurance program for their members.

Sincerely,

Peter J. Leyser, Director of Golfmax & Business Development

Frequent visitors to our websites will no doubt have noticed some changes. Not only do we now have a combined website, we have a new corporate logo to represent our group - The Moore-McLean Insurance Group.

The creation of this group image was a very involved process. Many ideas were discussed, including the use of the initials MMIG in lieu of the full name Moore-McLean Insurance Group.  But it soon became apparent that this didn't capture what the Moore-McLean Insurance Group wanted to convey.

Words like protection, coverage and security kept surfacing as key elements.  But it wasn't until Daryn McLean, President and CEO, sent an email to staff which relayed the details of the Leacock Club's 'Triangle of Hope' program and the creation of the 'McLean Shield' as a means of representing the program's efforts that the concept of the new logo was born.

Read an excerpt from Daryn's message here:

Some of you are aware of the Leacock “Ryder Cup” Golf day that I participate in with some of our clients to raise money for the Leacock Club.

The Leacock Club is a community services organization that raises money for disadvantaged youth, offering hope to people who have little.   Within the club, our small group started a program called “Triangle of Hope”. The Triangle of Hope Program encourages sharing among schools and we provide separate resources– financial to the disadvantaged. Typically, but not always, the sharing involves three schools: an inner-city Toronto school, an independent Toronto school, and a school in the townships of South Africa. This golf day was created 6 years ago and was named “Leacock Club Gentlemen’s Tournament” to raise funds for the Triangle of Hope. This day was created to celebrate sportsmanship, friendship, competitiveness, giving, character and charity. These words reminded the organizers of my late father, Fred McLean, and therefore they named the trophy after him. It is called "The McLean Shield". The winning team keeps The McLean Shield until next year’s event. Our team, 'The Brave', won the tournament last year and as some of you may have noticed, the shield was was proudly displayed in our front lobby. I am proud to announce that The Brave won again this year and we will have the trophy again for part of this year.

Daryn's email formed the basis of the inspiration for the logo, and the shield image just seemed a natural choice. Not only does this image convey strength, protection, quality and nobility, but it hints at the history of the McLean family name and pays homage to the late Fred McLean, one of the company's founders. We think Fred would be proud of this new graphic representation of the organization he helped to build, and we hope you enjoy displaying this logo as much as we enjoyed taking part in its creation. So, without further delay, may we introduce the new image for The Moore-McLean Insurance Group... (drum roll, please...)

The logo is comprised of a shield containing a crest. The shield is representative of the Gaelic heraldry of the McLean name. Heraldry and armory have been used throughout history to identify persons, their documents, their buildings, towns and tombs. In addition, the shield denotes strength, fortitude and allegiance among clan members.

The crest is dominated by a tower with embattlements. The accompanying motto is a somewhat abbreviated translation of the Gaelic McLean clan motto "Is í an tsuáilce mo ghradam" which really means "Virtue is the Mark of my Honour", or, shortened, Virtue Mine Honour.

The colour blue denotes loyalty, truth and devotion - all of which are characteristics we pride ourselves on.
